Meet Dr. Mapendo Karen Safari

(DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC)

Founder & Medical Director, Access Psychiatry

I’m Dr. Mapendo Karen Safari, a doctoral-prepared, board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, the founder and medical director of Access Psychiatry. With more than 17 years of experience in acute and subacute healthcare, my path to psychiatry was born from a simple but powerful truth: behind every symptom is a story, and behind every story is a person. This belief continues to guide every aspect of my work rooted in compassion, grounded in science, and focused on treating the whole individual.

My journey began in general nursing, where I spent years managing busy clinical units and leading teams through moments of both crisis and recovery. It was during this time that I witnessed the silent emotional struggles so many patients carried unseen, unspoken, and often untreated. I saw how delays in mental health care deepened suffering and widened the gap between patients and healing. That experience fueled my decision to pursue advanced psychiatric training, not just to prescribe medications, but to listen with intention, build therapeutic relationships, and offer timely access to compassionate, effective mental health care.

Scheduling an appointment at Access Psychiatry, LLC is easy.
Our dedicated team is here to help you begin your journey to better mental health.

Appointment Cancellation & No-Show Policy

We work hard to ensure access to quality mental health care for all patients especially those in urgent need. Each appointment slot represents a valuable opportunity for someone to receive support. When a scheduled appointment is missed or canceled at the last minute, it becomes a lost chance to help someone who may be going through a difficult time.

24-Hour Notice Required: If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact us at least 24 hours before your appointment. This allows us to offer your slot to another patient who may be in need.

First Missed Appointment: Your first no-show or late cancellation will be waived as a courtesy.

Additional Misses: Any further no-shows or cancellations without sufficient notice will incur a $80.00 fee before another appointment can be scheduled.

Frequent Cancellations: Repeated missed appointments may prompt a re-evaluation of your treatment plan to ensure your needs and commitment to care are aligned.

We appreciate your partnership in respecting the time of both your provider and fellow patients. You never know what someone else may be going through—your consideration helps create space for healing in our community.
